I`m doing my first claying. I plan on washing the car, rinsing it, leaving it wet, and then using Z7 and water as a lubricant for the clay. Everything I`ve read says to wipe off the lubricant after claying a section. That makes sense if the lubricant is a QD solution. But if it`s shampoo wouldn`t it be better to rinse it off?

I`d say wash it to get the car as clean as you can... then clay... then wash it again to get off any residue left behind. Then dry.

If you use Z7, don`t use too much. I made the mistake of using too much soap and my clay fell apart. Put about a capful or two into a bucket and mix with about 2.5 gallons of water. Use a sponge or a washmitt and just wipe the water/soap solution on the part of the paint you are going to clay, then start claying. If there is too much soap, dilute the bucket with more water. Add more soapy water when more lubrication is needed. I usually take a hose and rinse off the panel I clay before moving on to the next panel.

lets say you washed your car and then dried...mix a bottle of about 1:16 soap to water in a spray bottle...use this for the clay lube.....wipe each clayed area with a MF...when done with entire car....QD the entire car......
