What happened to usinf a 30X magnifier?

A few months past... most people in the forum accepted the practice cleaning the car and looking at suspicious water marks, scratches, swirls, bird drooping remains, rough surfaces and pretty much anything through a lighted 30X magnifier that you could buy for a few bucks at Radioshack BEFORE breaking out the PC, SMR and the whole arsenal.

The purpose of this practice was to determine the type and depth of the damage to use the least abrasive yet effective product and maintain the clear.

This practice seems logical to me, but it is hardly mentioned now.

    Am I missing something?

Maybe this thread will work as a reminder of a good practice.:xyxthumbs

Those interested should do a SEARCH on this. I posted some info on it some time back and so have others. The posts will give you model numbers and pricing. Beware that the Radio Shack unit has been discontinued so it may be hard to find.

Yep. They stock the 60x-100x unit now, DON`T buy it. It`s too powerful to examine paint with, you will not be able to see anything. It will actually show the structure of the paint and not the surface.

I dug up my 30X magnifier awhile ago... I dropped it though and broke it. Haven`t gotten around to getting a new one. Maybe tomorrow morning I`ll see if they have any.
