I posted this in the off-topic section but I didn`t get any replies. I NEED your help, the smell is unbearable. Here is the story, A buddy of the kids next door decided to play a joke on them. They dumped something like rotten eggs and stale pickle juice all over the carpet in the hall. I`ve tried, Lysol, Febreeze, Baking Soda, Carpet Fresh, Rubbing Alcohol, Ammonia, Resolve, and who know`s what else. How can I get rid of the awful, awful stench?? I tried scrubbing with Tide today, and the smell returned!!

Please help me, there will be a reward (j/k ) for the person`s suggestion that rids the carpet of the stench. Thanks in advance for all your help.

meguiars all purpose cleaner to remove all the stains and clean the fabric. Then use a ordor eliminator and soak it, i mean soak it.

that should do the trick. Also lift up the carpeting and get the padding under it as that will hold ordors as well.

NYD, oddly there wasn`t really any stains to begin with. I hit it with Febreeze and it didn`t put a dent in it. There is no pad under the carpet, I don`t know how it is attatched either, the carpet is the commercial short nap thin carpet and I have no experience with them.

That prob will help a ton! Just clean it really good and let it dry really good before you put it back in the car........

I`m sorry for being unclear, the carpet is in the hallway of my dorm, not the car. My bad.

When it comes to smells, more times than not if your were to just clean or spray something on it you will only be masking the situation. What you need in this particular case is a ozone machine. What an ozone machine does is that it breaks down the largest contaminent. Leaving the machine in the affected area long enough will entually get rid of the smell. I recently removed the smell of skunk and pipe smoke from the interior of a van.

Get a couple boxes of backing soda and cover the area with it. Let it sit overnight and vacuum it the next day. should help with the stink...... After that get some carpet fresh and do a follow up treatment.

what`s it smell like, rotten? you need to kill the bacteria that`s not dying cause it`s not drying.

is it dorm carpet that is glued to the flooring? or is it a rug that you can remove?

clean it well with a disenfecting soap, rinse with a towel and a bucket of water, and just go nuts with the rubbing alcohol to dry it up

    course it`s just a suggestion

Steve, I believe the carpet is glued to the floor. I like your suggestions though.

    David,

If I had read your article first, I never would have created this post. I`m going to try to find Kids `N` Pets this weekend and give it a whirl. Thanks to all!! :wavey
