    I know, half of you will say if you are doing PPCL then why do the AIO and vice versa - but I like the PPCL`s ability to negate any remaining SMR haze on the black sucky Acura paint and I think that in the mystery that is Klasse, there is some benefit to bonding AIO with SG before the Souveran. So, my question:



    1) SMR then Dawn, then PPCL, then AIO, or

    2) SMR then PPCL, then Dawn, then AIO, or

    3) SMR then PPCL then AIO and wash the dishes with the Dawn.



    or is it really Door #4?

    Door #2 seems the best option. But if it were me, I`d buy some Prepsol-type product and wipe down the car with that instead of all the Dawn washes. Too much wasted time and water if ya ask me.



    And the PPCL before AIO won`t hurt a bit. A little extra polishing won`t kill your paint.

    Sorry, just gotta go with Door #4. I am as anal as the next guy. Probably more so. But I hate to see wasted time.



    Truth is, PPCL "and" AIO are somewhat redundant steps. Both have solvents, both have light abrasives. Why do you feel you need both? (Yea, I guess I am that "half")



    The solvents in AIO will easily remove any oils leftover from PPCL that you feel might inhibit the bonding to the surface. So if AIO gets rid of the SMR haze you are getting go that route. No need for Dawn inbetween. If you need to use PPCL to get rid of the haze, that`s fine. But still, no need for Dawn because your AIO solvents will still eventually get rid of the residue.

    Last fall I did SMR, Dawn, AIO, SG, Blitz and had quite a bit of hazing. I am not sure if it is simply the paint getting sand-blasted here in Mass or the fact that I did not use a PC and might not have broken down the SMR enough, or whether the results that some have had with PPCL and SMR hazing will really help.



    So now I have aPC. I have a lot more data on how to properly apply the SMR. I have the PPCL and still have my AIO/SG. I would rather do an extra step of using PPCL before AIO than getting a coat or two deep in to the SG a realize the haze was not going away.



    But I think the answer you might be giving is, if you are going to use either PPCL or AIO then dawning is not necessary because either product will remove the leftover SMR oils allowing a nice bonding surface for the SG. True?



    And, by the way, since I only have about 40 mins on the PC, doing an extra coat or two is actually still fun.

    Haven`t had any haze on my black car and I live in MA too.



    It took me 9hrs to do my car a 1.5 months ago:

    Dawn,

    SMR,

    Meguiars #9, (don`t ask me why I used both)

    Fine rubbing compound on some areas,

    Clay

    Dawn again

    Clear Coat Paint Scrub

    ZFX with Z5, Z6, ZFX with Z5, Z6, ZFX with Z2, Z6.



    and all by hand too!

    In the most non technical sense, when I was done with the whole process, the black surface had a whitish film or haze on it. It looked as if I had not let the wax dry and still needed to buff some of it off - although I know this was not the case.



    So I don`t know if it was SMR oils leftover - even though I did dawn after - or it was small scratches from the SMR or sjust lousy Acura paint because the worst area was the hood that had been hammered by highway road grit. But it was there.
