Sal says on his site that you should always end with Z2 as your top layer because of its optical properties. So if I have 5 coats of Z5, and then finish with one coat of Z2, is that as good, not as good, or better than using 3 coats of each (Z2/Z5)????

Z5 is a thicker formula that fills swirls better, and faster. They both have a different look to them, and some people only use Z5 and prefer its shine. Some people prefer Z2. I like Z2 on darker cars and Z5 on lighter cars, although they both work great.

In the lab, Z2 has higher optics, but according to your color car and your eyes, finish up with whatever makes you happy and you feel looks the best.

Make sure you use Z6 in between coats...it makes a difference.

You should use Z5 till you are happy that all the swirls are gone, then finish as you have with Z2. Remember 3 coats is the max for 24 hours when using Z2 and or Z5 w/ ZFX.

So am I to understand that the top layer, even though it is only one layer, will determine the optical properties? Or will it be different if several layers on the top ie 3 layers of Z2 vs 1 layer of Z2 on the top of several layers of Z5?

I noticed a very few swirls left after I layered on 3 layers of Z5. So what I would like to do is put on 2 more layers of Z5 and finish with one layer of Z2. Will this look the same optically as if I just finish with 3 layers of Z2??

I read yesterday on a Viper board that some Z users

    integrate[mix] Z2 and Z5 together, then apply.

Anyone heard of this system before?

There`s really no point in mixing Z2 znd Z5. All you`re doing is decreasing or diluting the effectiveness of full strengh Z5 and taking away the benefit of the clarity and higher shine of full Z2. That`s like trying to make your own cleaner wax, which will work but not as effectively as each product on it`s own.

Regardless of how many coats of Z5 you already have, if you finish with Z2 you will notice increased optics and clarity because Z2 is the final top layer.
