911 Carrera Detailing Plan, Ceramic, and PPF

    Howdy all,

My father-in-law recently purchased a 2012 911 Carrera and we are planning on getting it all gussied up for Christmas. I`ve put together a plan based on what I think it probably needs but I figured my fellow Autopians could weigh in. The color is dark blue metallic and the paint is in pretty good condition, just seems thirsty for some product. I`d say little to no corrective work is needed. He had the shop he bought it from put a PPF on the car that covers the front of the car including the hood.

Here`s the plan I put together based on what products I`ve got on hand and what he purchased:

    Wash
Griot`s Garage Car Wash, two bucket method with a sponge.

    Decon
Optimum Ferrex Iron Remover on everything that`s not PPF`d
Sonus Claybar on everything that`s not PPF`d

    Polish & Prep
Blackfire SRC Polish w/ Lake Country CCS Pad`s (either green or blue) again avoiding PPF
    Optimum Paint Prep wipe down

    Ceramic Coating
    CQuartz for paint
    CQuartz Skin for PPF

    Glass
    Stoner`s Invisible Glass

    Interior
    303

    Wheels
    Poorboys wheel wax

That`s the plan anyway, unless y`all see anything wrong with it. I do have two questions that go along with this.

I have some P21S that I think would look pretty good on the car, can I top the cquartz with it after a few days have passed for the coating to cure?
If I can top the cquartz can also top the cquartz skin on the PPF?

I`ve used all kinds of waxes and sealants on paint but I`ve never done anything with PPF so I`m not sure what to expect and I definitely don`t want to screw it up.

Plan sounds pretty solid to me. I`d look into a coating for the wheels as Porsche brake dust is pretty horrendous.

See what the paint likes and start with your least aggressive pad first.

DO NOT top your coating with a wax or sealant. It will `clog` the coating and basically ruin the coating. I treat PPF just like paint when coating. Some may even be able to be polished gently/lightly, but tread carefully here as you may not know what brand/type of PPF was used.

Hope this helps, enjoy that 911 and working on it and I look forward to seeing some pics!!

I agree don`t top the coating with a wax. Either wax it or coat it.

PPF can be lightly polished but try in a small spot first before doing the entire thing.

If you have left over UK then coat the wheels with it. Skin will work just fine. Skin does need a 4 hour wait time for a second layer and I would recommend to add another layer.

Post pics when you are done.

Thanks for the feedback! And good idea on using the skin on the wheels as well. I would certainly think there will be enough for the ppf and the wheels.

Going to have to wait for it to warm up a little before we get started. Probably Monday or Tuesday.

I will definitely post pics once we get it all cleaned up!

It won’t last long on wheels. But it can be used on plastic trim as well.

Took me a little while to get back here and post the finished result but it turned out great! Thanks Guz & Sizzle for the input. All-in-all it took us about 4.5 hours to do everything. I led the process and my father-in-law followed behind to dry, buff, etc. The cquartz went on well and was so easy to use, I was very very pleased with it. There are a few areas on the car like around the rear haunches that could have used some more aggressive polishing or even compounding but we just kept things simple with a single-step polish.

The photos I took are not great, the sun was mostly behind the trees when we pulled it out but I assure you it looked really good. My father-in-law was very happy with it and that`s what counts!
