How to restore trim after NuFinish bleaching.

    Hi, everyone.
    New enthusiast here .

I have a ‘19 rav4 and I used NuFinish car polish and it bleached my plastic trims.
I have some streaks after using rain-x and/or googone spray from removing bird poop.
What is the way to restore the trim?
I have the black stuff and cerakote in my Arsenal.
Which products should I use ?

    Thank you in advance

Solutions Finish is one of the best to restore trim to like new but it isn’t good for longevity. So I’d recommend buying Solutions Finish to restore the trim and then something like CarPro DLux for long term protection.

You`ve got to clean out the NuFinish residue from the trim, it hasn`t been "bleached", it`s got abrasive residue stuck in the texture. You need to use an APC (all purpose cleaner) or something like Mother`s Back-To-Black Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner, with a brush. Use a soft brush and don`t brush any adjacent paint, tape it off if you have to.

I used to dream about powder coated wheels on my motorcycle.
then I washed them and my dream came thru. Haha

I was washing the trims with many products but I’ll try this approach.

    thx

    Welcome to Autopia!

Can you expatiate a bit on the streaks from the Rain-X? It *is* on your glass, and not the paint, right? Did you try the "like removes like" approach (i.e., going back over the problem area with another try with the Rain-X, being careful to do it right)?

I dunno why you`d use the Goo-Gone for birdbombs, but more info on what happened with that would be helpful. Note that if you`re *not* using a LSP (Last Step Product, i.e., wax/sealant/coating) that resists such stuff then you need to clean it off with something that`ll neutralize the acids, otherwise you can get etching even though it appeared that you did indeed "clean it all off"; the [nasty stuff] from the guano gets into the pores/microfissures of the paint and continues to do damage until it`s neutralized.

EDIT/addition: On the NuFinish stains, note that such issues can be a real PIA to resolve, so don`t give up too soon! There are products made specifically for "removing white stains from trim". IME they do sometimes work a lot better than the usual APCs/etc. and might be worth a try. IIRC, the last one I bought was called something like "GR8".

Everybody seems to like the Solutions Finish, so IMO that`s definitely worth a shot, just remember to expect not-so-immediate results

I’m a noob so I used what Scotty Kilmer on youtube recommended. He is a great mechanic but for car detailing products this forum seems to be the place.

Scotty is indeed the king of clickbait but I enjoy his videos too. I`d recommend this place for detailing advice though.
Treat it like it`s the only one in the world.
