    Unopened Coating shelf life

Is there a “standard” or even an observed (by you members) shelf life for 30ml / 50ml coating bottles that are stored in ideal conditions (out of sunlight, 65-75degF temperatures)? I rarely see any info from manufacturers on this topic other than maybe Gyeon.

I think CQ UK can go 2 years... is that a normal range for coatings? I know there are probably answers all over the place and I won’t hold anyone liable. Just curious for my own purchasing ideas in this global climate of quarantining where I’m not sure how long it often I will see friends’ or families’ vehicles.

Glass bottle? Once any air makes contact with the resin, curing starts, which is why glass bottles are used.

To piggyback on Acura`s question: Have we decided if there is any benefit to refrigerate the product, whether opened or un-opened?

    Thanks.

    Re: Unopened Coating shelf life

My last vial of OptiCoat went bad within two years despite being unopened and in climate-controlled (but not refrigerated) storage.

Gee, this thread reminds me that I have some 22ple stuff here that might be almost that old! No idea whether it`s still good...

That is going to vary quite a bit. Here is something to consider. I had an unopened bottle of CSL develop crystals in it and become cloudy as it only has a 1 year shelf life when it is unopened.

    Glass bottles, yes. Sealed.

Interesting, thanks Guz. I assume Gtechnic listed the 1 year shelf life somewhere obvious, or did you have to go digging for that info?

I’m sure different formulas are more prone to it and I assume that during initial bottling, some companies may get the top sealed on faster than others.

Examples like yours is exactly what I was looking for since it’s hard to make any across the board claims. All I know is that the UK bottle you so graciously provided me with was 2 years old and worked fine. Good to know about CSL.

I’m curious about any hood or bad experiences with older 22ple HPC, as well as any and all others.

I remember seeing that on the GTechniq site. It`s been awhile since I looked at their main site.

I have started keeping my coating bottles in canning jars, just to try to keep a little more air out.

I have always kept my unopened and opened coating in my freezer to try to slow any chemical reactions. I’m don’t have any evidence it does work. The light coating I haven’t put them in just the 30 ml/50ml bottles

    Refrigerator, not freezer, correct?

I keep them on my bookshelf not exposed to sun. No issues doing that. Clean the cap and top of the bottle after use and tighten them up.

22ple is smart as they include a plug in their bottles.

I assume the coating freezes then, or is it high enough solvent/alcohol percentage that it does not?

    Re: Unopened Coating shelf life

I think it`s more wiser to call the manuf. and see what they say. Sure there are grey area answers when it comes to chems, but freezing product .......and then using a frozen/defrozen product, honestly, I would have some serious hesitation to do . If I was freezing apc or something more superficial to be used as a spray/wipe and rinse, sure. But freezing coating and then using it down the road ? I Dunno....I`d rather break out a benji than use frozen/thawed coating on paint. Maybe less hesitation on wheels.
