    Coating bare aluminum wheels?

Has anyone coated bare aluminum wheels with any success? I was thinking of trying Dlux or UK3.0 but not sure it`ll do anything on bare metal.

What about that 22ple stuff I got...I think it`s made for "metals" along with wheels, so it might be worth considering.

I can`t find any literature that states if DLUX or UK3.0 will work on bare metal so I`m not really sure. I don`t even think it lasts long on chrome to be honest.

Most coatings are designed to bond to the chemicals in clearcoat. So you certainly can do it but durability would be iffy and I’ve heard of them becoming blotchy as they can absorb unevenly in the porous metal.

Thanks Mike, the potential for blotchyness is a big worry also.

If someone has better information please let me know, but that’s what I’ve read and it’s also what Modesta reccomends.

I have used DLUX on bare metal wheels and noticed no splotches after a year. Now it didn’t last that long and the wheels still oxidized.

Haven’t tried 22ple VM1 in bare metal yet.

Hard to beat Wolfgang metal sealant which works great.

While you may be able to use a coating on bare aluminum wheels, the purpose of a coating along with protection, is durability. That would be my question.

I think CarPro says 18 months on bare aluminum. Im not sure where you are going with that? Isnt a coating going to be longer than the rest of the options? (Sealant, wax). He didnt ask about durability he just asked about a coating that can be used on bare aluminum wheels.

Just curious, that’s all. I don’t coat them because I don’t want them coming back after 6 months. That’s all.

    Re: Coating bare aluminum wheels?

Nice find from Carpro. Durability is, of course, the primary reason to coat anything, but I wanted to make sure it wa even worth it on bare aluminum. If Carpro says it`s ok then I`ll try it and see how it goes.
