    What could`ve caused this

Does this look like acid staining or brake fluid staining

Are you saying you`ve tried to clean it off and it`s not coming? Do you have a reason to believe brake fluid has leaked? Have you used an acid wheel cleaner?

We need a little more info. Your car?

Wheel acid or a cleaner sprayed on when the wheels were hot.

Looks like old brake dust mix with a type of cleaner and wasn`t dry off.

Is it just the one wheel? I doubt its brake fluid. Typically that would be on the inside of the wheel and not the face like that.

To those who mentioned a refinish thanks, upon closer examination on the other rims there is definitely signs of a refinish on those like major orange peel and such so the discoloration must be from the silver

You gotta be very careful cleaning refinished wheels, especially if done on the cheap at the dealership.

Yeah, that almost looks like a strong wheel cleaner that wasn`t completely rinsed from the wheel. You see this at automatic car washes...it gets thrown when the car exits the wash line.

    Re: What could`ve caused this

I’ve seen similar results several times on vehicles that regularly use a tunnel wash. I’ve always assumed it was the dedicated wheel cleaner on hot wheels. People I’ve known, guarantee me that there wheels were fine before the wash and this was the result once finished. Comments like this are often suspect. That said, these were people that I believed.

    Re: What could`ve caused this

Yet another reason not to go to an automatic car wash. It looks like the chemical was too strong and/or used on hot wheels. Hope some polishing may mask it a bit.
Treat it like it`s the only one in the world.
