Aw man, coatings are supposed to make your life easier, not add to life`s frustrations. Glad you at least got the hood looking better.

Well, they do make your life easier as long as you don’t screw up.

Re: Uh oh. How to remove Miyabi coat?

For those familiar with Miyabi, is it that much ~harder~ than other comparable coatings ?

I have seen the results of coatings ontop of soft paint, and it definitely helps with the typical marring you will get with soft paint. Eventually the marring does still come through, just not as FAST. I have not used the MMMM`s yet - Miyabi and Modesta.

Who`s to say (really) if one coating is `harder` than another. I`ve never had a problem removing it with Menz 2400 on orange light cutting pad but that`s just `standard` missed high spots after leveling/buffing as opposed to OP`s which apparently dried a bit too long before buffing/leveling.

The Technical specs read like many others:

    echnical Specification:

    • VOC-free
    • Non-solvent based
    • Durability: 18-24 months
    • Water contact angle: 95 degrees
    • pH tolerance: 2-11
    • Thickness layer: 1-2 microns
    • Hardness: 8-9H (pencil scale)
    • Coverage: 30ml = 2-3 cars

OP seems to be having quite a chore post curing...

I do appreciate ~ harder ~ to some degree if one is seeking to put a product on soft paint. You know, the type of paint that shows marring by a wind blown leaf brushing by it.

That`s no bueno. On the bright side it does show how resilient the coating is. If it is the coating that you`re seeing.

That would be black Subaru paint...the evil concoction that started me down this whole rabbit hole.

Todd recommended Surbuf pads for removal. Anyone have experience with these?

They cut very well, tend to haze the paint more than MF though. They go back a few years, probably about the time M105/M205 were released and you can thank Kevin Brown for them coming into the spot light.

Funny, I just found some last week, still in the package I bought years ago. Gave it a shot and still don`t like them on my rotary.

I tried those many years ago on the Cyclo, got `em from TOL. Nasty hazing, no better cut than my other Cutting Pads/Disks. Yuck, total waste of my $

They were all the rage as microfiber was being introduced. Designed for furniture polishing. Try Griot’s fast cut microfiber, you’ll have an easier time.

I have B&S microfiber cutting pads. Are the griots really that much better to warrant the purchase?
