My Comparison between M205 and Griots Perfecting Cream

This is old news to a lot of people but since I’m an amateur who is still trying to find the best materials to polish my black car with I thought I would post up my recent thoughts from comparing Meg205 and Griots Perfecting Cream in case others have the same issue I have had with M205.
Last year was my first year to successfully polish my black car and remove ALL the swirl marks and when I saw the result I felt like the King of the World, I damn near cried it was sooo beautiful. The compound that gave me the satisfaction was Megs 205. Although I had briefly tried other compounds with same results I always stuck with M205.

Fast forward to this week when I needed to re-polish before applying CSL/EXOV4. I grabbed my ol’ favorite M205 and went to town..or maybe just around the block b/c I didn’t get too far. One issue that 205 always bugged me was that sometimes it dried within seconds. A little spit to wet it and it was good to go…sorta. More spit and more spit…you get the idea. Temps were mid 80’s and a little humid but a pleasant day to do this in the garage but this was really annoying and slowing the process.

I did have some Griots Perfecting Cream on the shelf and I remembered that it produced the same end results so I thought I’d give that a try. WOW! What a difference! Not ONCE did it dry out and the working time was extremely long. The cream remained “wet/oily” and I remained hydrated the entire evening.

So anyone that is frustrated from a polish that dries too soon try Griots Perfecting Cream and see if it works better for you. The results are the same as M205 but it can be worked forever.

Thanks to all you people that post your experiences, it`s greatly appreciated!

I hope to finish the car over the next few days then apply CSL/EXO V4 on Thursday so I can drive it this weekend.

Glad you were able to solve your polishing problem easily.

That is why I always have multiple polishes/compounds on hand. It is hard to forecast how paint and polishes are going to interact. Throw environmental factors into the mix and it just makes the case for having options.

I really enjoyed using Griots FCC. I especially like Griot’s bottle design and the way the compound works.

Never had a problem with 205 drying out..105 yes, but not 205. BTW 205 is not a compound, but a finishing polish.

If you are going to post on a forum, al least post the correct terminology.

Continuing to learn (i.e. Terminology) , helps one to be able to convey their thoughts so others can understand without clarification.

Nice post. I’ve never had an issue with M205 dusting. Humidity is a non issue here. Just that nice mid 70’s beach weather a majority of the year.

The only issue i have had is it not finishing on very soft paints.

I’ve had Perfecting Cream give me issues with it clumping and turning into small polish balls after one pas. This was a sample I received and have not used it since.

That should not have happened, I’ve used it on every type of pad and never had an issue in 2 years. There obviously was a problem with the sample.

I wonder if that beach weather is having some effects.

    First, HD Polish, now PC?

I can`t recall having issues with M205 either. But also haven`t had issues with Perfecting Cream. Well, there was that ONE time. Hot summer day, high humidity, over in Bellflower. The Cream seemed way more runny than usual. Like, overly so. About a year ago, that was. Just used it over the weekend, it was thin, but not like that one summer.

Great post. When you get in trouble with the go to polish it`s great to have options to reach for.

    What pads do you use?
And how many passes per sections do you do with M205 and Perfecting Cream?
    Which polisher do you use?

It shouldn’t but it did. I was using it on a Rupes yellow pad so nothing to extreme. Pads were clean and I went a few panels and said nope and put it aside.

Switched over to Hyper Polish and that worked much better.

I got my sample from JustJesus and I’m certain the polish was good. He is fairly local to me so no temperature extremes from shipping.

This exact experience is why I don’t pick some up. Plus I have plenty of other polishes that work just as good if not better.

I doubt it’s the weather. It doesn’t get hot here and the humidity is a moot point. And I’m working in the garage so it’s cooler in the garage.

Aw man. I sent you a bad sample! SORRY man.

So weird, though. It really is. But luckily you do have other polishes you can use Yay.

Re: My Comparison between M205 and Griots Perfecting Cream

In my experience with M205 and PC, PC suits really hot environments very well, like 90+ degF. I didn`t find that I could work FC as long as M205, and on the other hand, it is nice not having to worry about TSO`s.

Lol maybe it was the paint I used it on.

I doubt it’s bad unless you have had it for more than 5 years or it has seen extreme temp changes.

    I’ll try it again sometime.
