Just a wash and single stage polish followed by a panel wipe on most panels last week, topped with M26.

Bill1975- Ah, why`d you decide to go with the M26? It can sure look great on black all right, just be sure to redo it regularly. I haven`t used it since...gee, must`ve been the `80s...how readily does it shed dirt? IIRC (and who knows..) it was kinda oily compared to the M16 I was used to, but it really did look great on black.

I can`t say how well it sheds dirt. But I like the somewhat deeper look on my car compared to the optimum Poli Seal that I used last time.

Another wash technique adjustment that can minimize wash induced swirling is wash and dry in straight lines. Wash horizontal panels front to back and vertical panels top to bottom if you do mar the paint the scratches will be straight and considerably less noticeable.

That must be one of those YMMV things... I see vertical marring on vertical panels much more easily than horizontal marring, so I do front-back exclusively (to the extent that I bother with it).

Since this is Autopia I probably oughta say something about how the looks matter, but I`d be a lot happier if you said it sheds dirt really well Eh, just me being me...different priorities.

You`re not alone. Durability is a discriminator I`d put ahead of appearance as well. I`d much rather deal with an LSP that hangs on for long periods of time and is easy to clean/sheds grime easily than one that simply looks good and fails at the other two missions...at least when talking about my daily drivers. Most of the time any product used will actually look pretty good. I can only think of one situation when applying a product made a car look worse.

Re: Still getting holograms despite careful washing. Frustrated

Thank you DaveT345 for offering up some time today to help out!

I should correct my earlier statements and say that these are not holograms, just faint swirl marks. The door was washed and polished, which will make a good baseline to determine, finally, if my wash routine is screwing something up or my eyes are being tricked by oils in the polish fooling me into believing the swirls are gone. In the mean time I`ll consider getting some Sonax ex04-06.

Also, that little battery powered machine with a small pad on it was about the most brilliant thing I`ve seen in a while.

While I`m always saying "looks don`t matter, it`s all about protection"....

I was so displeased by KSG and BFAFPP on Audi silver that I stripped them off and started over Ditto for trying P21s on the Jag. Just couldn`t stand `em looking that way even though I used/liked those LSPs on other stuff. Go figure..

Bill1975- Hey, that`s great that DaveT345 was able to help out! Is the battery powered/little pad unit the Rupes ibrid nano?

Sounds like you do indeed have a good baseline now so it`ll be interesting to see how things go. Oh, and thanks for explaining the holograms/swirls thing, that did confuse me a bit.

Yes it was the Rupes ibrid. Seemed like a great tool.

Re: Still getting holograms despite careful washing. Frustrated

After a recent wash, I can finally conclusively say that in fact, my wash routine is fine, but I`m just not getting all the swirls out. The door we polished remained swirl free after the wash, and I noticed no new marring on the other panels.

Not sure why it was so difficult for me to figure that out, but I appreciate the patient help of everyone here.

Big thanks to DaveT345 for helping with the polishing and generously giving me a small bottle of Sonax 04-06 as well as a couple of compounds and a coating sample!

Glad I could help. You said coating sample, not sure what you mean by sample, I just want to make sure you know that bottle should be enough to do two full coats on your car.

I guess a little bit goes a long way, I was not aware it would cover that much!
