Re: Cleaning Salt-Encrusted Carpet Floor Mats

I`ll tell you what to do to get the salt out. Scrub off as much of the salt as you can with a brush. Treat it with your preferred cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes. Then what I do is I put them in my front load washing machine and set it on heavy with hot water. I put vinegar inside the cup of the Machine. When it`s done, the salt is all gone and you have clean mats!

That is what I love about this forum and AGO. I learn about products and techniques that I never have heard of. “Sisal mats” I did a search and came up with some of the coolest looking mats I’ve seen.

This would be worth a trip to the local coin-op laundromat. Preferably one with a coin-op car wash attached. You could pressure wash after scrubbing at home then throw them in one of those massive $7.00 per load washers. Expensive yes, but worth not getting all that gross stuff in my personal washer.

Re: Cleaning Salt-Encrusted Carpet Floor Mats

I`d be interested to hear how sisal mats work for people. I only had one set of them, but found they weren`t right for me. Too rough/not plush enough (gee, still lots better than WeatherTech/Husky floor liners though!) and I actually found them harder to keep clean than my carpeted ones. No, no...not flaming them at all, and "sisal mats" today might be different from the ones they sold a few decades ago.
