I love my Flex 3401, but I don`t bother with it on soft black paint....

I have not found a way to finish micro-marring free on soft black paint. Tried a lot. I can get close, but after a panel wipe and inspecting in the sun, there`s still faint "holograms". I don`t have that issue when using a free spinning random orbital. The forced rotation finishes great on medium to hard paint, though.

Just did a black Subaru...Flex for compound and M205, Rupes for final ultra fine polishing. Gotta say the Flex w white Force pad and M205 left a pretty nice finish though.

Technique plays a role in dealing with soft paint.

What speed did you use with M205/white on the 3401?

Even when I do my best with the Flex3401 I can always improve the finish with something else, even on hard paint. Ditto for M205 for that matter, no matter what machine/pad I use.

4 passes on speed 5 w/ light to moderate pressure, 2 passes on speed 4 with just machine pressure. Was removing last years WG Uber Ceramic and it did the trick as well as leaving a pretty good finish. Since it was my own car I took the time to go over it with Rupes white pad and Rupes diamond ultra fine gel polish which upped the gloss just a bit (enough to notice if your an OCD Autopian, not so much difference that `common folk` would likely notice)

Once I got pad/polish dialed in, I never had any problems with jet black bmw (one of the softest paints known to mankind) (personkind to be politically correct)

What pad, polish and speed do you use on the 3401 with jet black?

    If I remember correctly......

    Orange pad with pb ssr2.5
    white pad pb ssr 1.0
I think maybe pb pro polish with black pad

    Don`t remember speeds.

Did this with a orange pad and D300 followed by a white pad and Menz 4000.

As you can see.... It was pretty trashed from the Certified Pre-Owned, rotary installed DISO package. ;-)
