    Sio2 (hydro2 type) testing thread

On another thread the question was brought up about using the Sio2 type spray and rinse sealants with out the rinse aspect. I commented I had done it and would try to run a comparison so this is that thread

Disclaimers I`m not a shill or sponsored or work for any company of any type of detailing product. Anything I have, I have purchased.

On to the thread. In this testing I will be using The Waxed Shine Aquabead (it`s a company from Canada although they have on their Facebook they are working on a us based distribution outlet out of Arizona.)

It is a competitor to CarPro hydro2, Gyeon wet coat, Mckees Hydro blue, car products speed seal and I`m sure there are others out there that I just don`t know about

I first got hydro2 in a detaibox if anyone remembers those. And was pleased with the results. From there I bought more and used it up so I got a liter of Aquabead from the Waxed Shine as there was talk about it being less streak prone and finicky.

On the test subject it is my Our GMC. Paint is black metallic, our van is white so not as good of a pallet to test for steaks etc. it`s just a daily driver her route to work is past rock quarries. Mulch facilities, etc. muddy, dusty, dirty road. It rains it snows etc. so not a kind So cal environment.

On to the test. I cleaned both drivers side doors the front door will be spray and wipe of the 1:7 ratio (1 Aquabead: 7 distilled water) the rear door will be spray on wet and rinse to activate or whatever they company`s claim happens on a science level. Nothing exciting to see. Two clean doors with a fresh sealant on them

I just took some pics you can see the reflection of the white van and me trying to reflect the bottle of Aquabead in the paint. Both doors look the same. Both feel to my untrained hand the same.

I will track the performance of this scenario periodically

I guess there was thinking that it needed water to do its magic but this product says you can spray and wipe and CarPro hydro2 lite when it was launched on the U.K. Detail site they said you can use it that way as well. My thought it is should last longer with no water to activate it because it`s not diluted. But again I may have had magic to activate its super bond. Time will tell

No it didn`t streak. No issues.

Thanks for reading my mess I`m sure there are typos and poor grammar. Perhaps a video upcoming of performance comparisons but first we need to daily drive it and get it in the real world. Both would bead and sheet like a champ right now.

Matt, thanks for posting this and taking time to snap photos and run this test, which could have been a real pain if it had caused streaking! Looking forward to any followup you provide. (Sub`d)

    Matt,

Thanks for not being a shill and taking time to post your findings. I admit I have become an addict with the spray and rinse off sealants and any info or help from people like yourself will help in finding the perfect one (if there is one )

Re: Sio2 (hydro2 type) testing thread

A question that keeps popping into my head every time I see one of these non diluted SiO2 poroucts is what happens if you dilute it 6:1 or 8:1 instead of the manufacturers suggested 7:1? Are there any uses for it at full strength? I just wonder if anyone has played around with this stuff.

The less diluted the more it should last according to the manufacturer

They said 3:1 would last longer than 7:1.

Hell straight might just be a reload type product for all we know

I can try it straight I`m not scared of you want. Maybe do a couple more panels with different potency.

Re: Sio2 (hydro2 type) testing thread

A couple week later beading pics. Problem I am running into is the beads want to just roll down. So I used the hood too. Same day application as the drivers door and rear door. Application method was spray and wipe. 7:1

Both doors look the same to me at the 1 week mark.

Will update next week for week two. I am going to do the right door at full strength today.

Re: Sio2 (hydro2 type) testing thread

Ok made a quick video my first one applying full strength to a towel and wiping it on. Looks like it just applies like a coating. Kind of evaporated the high spots any where there was even remote haze it just wiped off with a swipe.

Don`t know how to add video. Going to search how to now

Beads on the hood look better than mine do.

Usually if you just post the shared video from you tube, it will work.

    But, take off the ”s" in the h t t p s.

I was able to view it. I was expecting some streaking, but I know you said previously that there wasn`t any. Looks like it just evaporates away once buffed sufficiently.

Interesting, but my thought would be why not use Gyeon Cure then?

    Twice as much.

    Cure probably lasts longer though.
