What`s the best road tar remover?

I`ve been getting a few cars in lately, that have some old road tar on them. Doesn`t look good at all, especially on lighter colored vehicles. Some of this road tar, seems to have been on the car for quite a while. Giving it ample time to really harden up and become a pain in the azz to get off. So what do you use? What is the best chemical, or method, to get old road tar (or new road tar for that matter) off the paint job? I say that cause obviously it can`t harm the paint.

Here`s a product I use that I`m certain no one ever heard of ..... Oil-Flo 141 Safety Solvent by Titan Labs.

I run winter and summer tires and this has been part of my wheel cleanup regimen for 9 years running (still on the original bottle). It removes the tar and wheel adhesive tape residue better than anything I had tried previously. It`s water soluble and it works great!

    +1 on Tarminator!

Spray, let dwell for a bit, and give a gently rub with your finger or a towel(on clean paint), then remove.

    Works wonders!

Another +1 for tarminator. I think the fact a lot of companies don`t offer a "tar remover" is testament to how well this stuff works.

Do people spray the aerosol products on a cloth or directly on the vehicle? I`d worry about getting it on places where I didn`t want it (unless it was a full detail anyhow).

Directly onto the vehicle and soak them down good...then follow with a good wash and wax of some sort.

Re: What`s the best road tar remover?

There IS a caveat to using Stoner`s Tarminator that I think is even printed on the "destructions" on the aerosol can that no one reads and that is it is NOT safe to use on plastic grills or OTC sprayed-on undercoating. If you leave it linger/sit/dwell for any length of time it MAY (I repeat MAY) soften either of those two materials. Older plastic grill seem to be especially susceptible to Tarminator solvents. Yes, I am speaking from experience.

If you want a "cheap" and effective solvent to remove tar from vehicle paint, just use gasoline on a microfiber
. Otherwise, I`ve used PPG`s DX-440 or the safer DX-330 wax and tar remover paint prep, but mine come from the mid `80`s so I am not sure that these are even available anymore.

Looks like it`s only in the UK?
Treat it like it`s the only one in the world.
