    Recommendation on wet/dry vac

    Hi guys!
I`ve been wanting to get a reasonably powerful wet/dry vac for cleaning our vehicles & for general garage work (i.e. I am not a professional detailer). I was originally planning on getting the Metro Vac n` Blo, but just recently found out it was a dry vac only. I`d really prefer to get a vacuum that also sucks up liquid. Any advice? I don`t need anything with a super huge capacity...I`d prefer to spend the $$$ on something with a decent/powerful motor & suction power. I also want something won`t have too large a footprint in our garage. I currently use a Dewalt cordless vacuum with 18V battery but find it`s not powerful enough.

I found a model by Ridgid at Home Depot (here in Canada at least) that seems to fit the bill -- 9 amp/5.0 peak HP motor & is wet/dry...

RIDGID | 4.0 Gallon RIDGID PRO Vac | Home Depot Canada

Anyone have any luck with it (or similar)? Ridgid also sells an autodetailing kit that seems like it would work well with this vacuum...

Not as many tools as the Metro unit, but seems like it would suit my purposes better. Thanks!

    Cheers,

    Al

Looked at that rigid yesterday actually

They say it has a suction power of "8", looked impressive
Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It`s good to be da King !!!

One good thing about the Rigid Vacs is that I think Home Depot warrants the motor of the Vac. for life.

I bought that Ridgid shop vac for my dad last year. It`s a nice little unit, lots of power, you can get bags for it (which I recommend). I have the larger 53 litre 6Hp Ridgid wet/dry vac and prefer it over the smaller unit for these reasons:

    • More power/ larger capacity
    • More flexible vacuum hose
    • Bottom drain port - easy to drain out any liquids. Add on the Ridgid pump plus a garden hose and you can quickly deal with any large wet mess (ie my flooded basement last April).
    • Blower port - you can flip the hose over, connect a shop vac concentrator nozzle and now you`ve got a poor man`s Master Blaster air blower. Something you can`t do with the smaller unit.
    • Larger selection of add on tools (the optional air diffuser for one is great)
    • Larger selection of HEPA filters

I also have the Auto Detailing kit - it`s very useful. You`ll like it.

    Hope that helps!

The key spec you need to look at in wet dry vacuums (besides lifetime motor warranty which I never heard of) is water lift. Over 106 inches is a very good number.
