Paint spots from pavement marker paint

A friend inadvertanly drove through where the yellow stripes had just been painted on the road. No he has yellow splotches of paint all along the side and in the wheel wells of his new 4 runner. What is the best way to remove this without damaging the clearcoat or the paint?

On the paint and plastic trim you should use a clay bar or sponge clay pad. You can try mineral spirits on the wheels

Another thing to note is that road paint can be of three different types:



a. Water-based

b. Oil-based

c. Epoxy



For the most part, most government agencies use only water-based paint because

it is less expensive to purchase.



There is a diagnostic process that one should go through when removing road paint and that is to call the government agency be it city, county or state and find out what type of paint they are using and who the manufacturer is and then contact them for information on the best way to remove it without damage to vehicle paint, trim, etc.



If you do not want to do that, clay is the "fail-safe" way to remove paint without damage.

Paint the wheel wells with black spray paint.

painting the wheel wells good lead to overspray on the rest of the car. imagine that regular washing of the wheel wells and the off gassing of the plastic liner it will eventually go away.

If you are careful that is not a problem.



In the old days, the painting of wheel wells along with painting of the engine block was a MUST for a properly detailed cars.



But that is the best way to get rid of white or yellow paint in the well area.

I`ve done it and it works well. I just would never pressure wash the wheel wells once they`re painted in effort not to blast away some of the paint. Brushes and APC in as many passes needed only.
