    can this be done without damaging paint on the car? What is the recommended procedure?

    If the pin stripes are vinyl, you can either use a hair drier and a plastic razor blade or use the 3M eraser wheel in a drill. The eraser wheel was designed for removing vinyl pin stripes. As the eraser wears down, use a metal file to reform the cutting angle on the eraser. The Cutting angle becomes round and stops removing the vinyl, just spin the eraser and hold it against a file to reform the cutting angle on the eraser.
