I was working on a black Lexus SC430 today, and one of the doors was obviously repainted, but there was something OFF about the clear. It was like "foggy" and even after a two-step polish job, it was not as lusterous or shiny as the adjacent body panel. So the customer wanted to know how it could be fixed? I presume wetsanding would do it, maybe the surface was contaminated with dust before curing? Unless it was just a `dirty batch` of clear the shop sprayed?

wow that is odd. could they possibly have sprayed a tinted clear coat on the vehicle on accident some how?

that would be the only thing that i could think of. Has he tried to contact the shop that did the work?

Cheap clear I bet. I know a shop that got burned on a bunch of stuff through PPG that didn`t hold up. Turned all foggy after a couple of years. They ended up having to pay for it themselves because they had kicked PPG to the curb just before all the carscame in.

I spoke with a body shop-a very reputible one, and they said the same thing, "cheap clear." Which will literally fog-up after some time but looks nice and crisp right after applied. nothing can be done except repainting it.
