So I bought a mint 2002 Passat Wagon GLX 4motion a couple weeks back. It was a one owner car with just over 40k miles. The only issue was that the owner (in his 60s) had a pinstripe and the first letter of his last name painted on the car. When I bought it, I figured it was a sticker like 99% of the cars out there only two discover that was not that case during it`s first wash in my ownership.

I did a lot of googling and I obtained or purchased 100% acetone, lacquer thinner, Easy Off oven cleaner, and felt pads for a dremel.

The acetone barely touched the striped, lacquer thinner evaporated way too fast to do any real damage to the stripe, but the Easy Off oven cleaner MELTED the stripe away without hurting the original paint underneath at all! I have 5 packs of #414 felt tip Dremel pads if anyone wants them for free because that was plan D.

Simply spray the over cleaner on the stripe, wait 5 mins, and wipe away. It was that easy.

    After initial removal:

No one could tell the stripe was every there. I did follow up with clay, M105/M205, and wax, but that was for good measure.

I used that on my painted pinstripes on my Max. It blew me away on how effective and easy it was. Who woulda known.

Thanks for the tip,I`m heading down to wal mart today, this seems like a great product for some stuck on residue on vehicles that have had decals removed.

I found a bottle of Scott`s Liquid Gold wood cleaner and preserver downstairs. I tried it on my car seats and it softens leather. I emailed Scott`s and asked them and their reply was that it wasn`t tested for leather so they couldn`t make an official recommendation but that many employees and customers use it on leather.

Great result and simple to. I would have been pretty nervous spraying that on paintwork. Well done.

Has anyone tried it on really badly pitted alloy wheels? I was told non-caustic oven cleaner might work when nothing else does but haven`t had an opportunity to try it yet.

I have to ask, what even inspired you to try Easy Off?

I just did a white Ford explorer the other day and had tons of small spots of tree sap on it. I used solvent and then clay and didn`t even budge it ! Would the Easy Off work ?

Easy Off is also great at de-anodizing aluminum parts. I restored a vintage bicycle a couple years ago and sprayed Easy Off on a number of parts so I could polish them. Works great.

I wouldn`t allow much dwell time for Easy Off since it may be harmful to paint if it sits too long. Easy off will remove chrome from plastic. It`s used for that purpose by diecast guys.
