I parked my car in an underground garage during a heavy rain and it looks like some water with minerals / calcium dripped out of the concrete ceiling onto my trunk. Theres white spot about 1" across with a trail going across the back of my trunk. I figured it would come off with a typical wash but no go. Also tried scraping a small portion with my fingernail, but that was causing abrasions.

    Any ideas?

You will probably need to wetsand the area and polish. I recommend you leave this to the professionals if you`re not familiar with the process.

Try a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar. Let stand a little bit rinse with water and see how it looks.

I tried soaking in pure vinegar for about 10 minutes and that didn`t soften it up at all. I took it to my great local body shop and they tried a chemical wash (did nothing) and then the guy buffed it out. FREE . He said its possible a "shadow" may come back but for now it looks great. Shout out to Quality Auto Body in Fairfax, VA . These guys rule.

There was a thread about this problem not too long ago. A car had been covered in those deposits. Nothing would touch it and had to be wet sanded, but on the bright side it came out great.

    Try this: http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-det...ge-repair.html

I got the same on my car, but I was able to wipe it off immediately, 99% came off. I`ll tackle the rest when I detail the car in the Spring.

Vinegar might not be strong enough. I`d use the acidic portion of a decontamination system. Namely, AutoInt/ValuGard`s "B". Let the chemical do the work and *then* see if you need to wetsand/etc.

You might also want to try something like:

Goof Off . . . . . not sure how long that stuff has been sitting on your vehicle or maybe something like a paint thinner
