My next project is taking water spots out of a "Winter Frost" 08 Altima Coupe which is supposed to be a three stage paint with what I think are ceramic pearl like granuals in the middle stage (again I think). I`ve got a PCxp, intensive polish and micro polish, and several CCM pads - orange, white, green, grey, red. Is this a hard/soft paint? Does it present any particular problems? I`m still very new at this. Thanks.

I was thinking, intensive on orange or white, and then micro on grey or red for the spots and minor swirls.

3 stage should be treated no different than base-clear in respect to polishing. You`re working with the clear, not below it (let`s hope).

I have done some painting of 3 stage paint. that can be difficult. As far as polishing goes you should have no issues. it should resolve the water spots as long as they are on top of the clearcoat. just be careful!

Yep, oughta be just like Audi`s pearls...no issues unless you`re painting.

That`s good to know. It`s my GF`s car and she loves it. I wouldn`t want to hurt her baby.

So the clear is as thick as any other? Doesn`t that make 3 stage paints thicker overall than 2 stage?

What three 3 stages means is that there are 3 layers above primer. This does not concern us as detailers at all. There is a base coat, a pearl coat, then clear coat. Now you will only be polishing the clear. Good luck if you need help shoot me a pm.!
