while trying to use scratch X 2.0 on scratch I rubbed through the clear coat. (my terry towel had some black on it)

I know , I am such a dumb, I used it like an idiot and applied too much pressure locally...

I am sick to my stomach, what do you guys think are my options?

The spot looks either like a blemish or a dark area depending which angle you look at it...

    See the pictures below

any help / advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

see if you can find a good shop to blend it in, but since its metallic I doubt they will

It`s down to the primer. Nothing you can do, but re-paint. Sorry to see that happen.

Unaware of the scale of your pictures, but it appears to be a fairly small spot. Considering that, along with the fact that with your paint color it probably virtually disappears in normal lighting, I`d just leave it alone. The risks of a metallic repaint are too great IMO. A tiny flub like that is a lot easier on the eyes than an entire body panel that doesn`t match.

    My $.02.

What a tough break. Sorry to see this.

You can find a touch-up paint guy to airbrush that tiny spot. It will likely be hard to see once he is done.

As for cost, it won`t be overly expensive. I`m guessing $85-$130.

I am certain there are several of these guys on this forum that can give us an idea of what it will cost.

How the heck did you manage to do that, by hand, with scratch X? Where you rubbing that one spot for 10hrs straight?

What type of car is it?

its a porsche 997S. My guess is that the clear was thinned out by previous detailing. I am not the first owner.

Didn`t think I`d see the day that someone with a 997s couldn`t afford a repaint.

It looks like there was a pretty serious scratch there. I may be wrong, but is also looks like at some point someone touched it up, and *maybe* sanded it down....which would explain the thin paint.

    You have a few options.

Leave it alone until you can afford a proper repaint (best option)

Get it touched up but this may not be much cheaper than a repaint and it may not come out that great. I do airbrush work and a good artist is not cheap. With a metallic it needs to be sanded (maybe some fill work done for that scratch) primed then the base coat shot over a rather large area to blend in the metallic and then there is the blend lines....so depending where it`s at it may need to be blended up to a body line.

You can also do your own paint touch up but that almost always never turns out good. If you decide to do this with dealer touch up you`ll be sorry because they cure will be worse than the illness.

    My recommendation...get it professionally repaired.
