Car washing with Grouting Sponges

Hey guys, I just wanted to get some input on what you guys think of using a grouting sponge to wash the car? I know most people use the microfiber mits, or cloths, but for some reason I`ve really taken a liking to the $1.99 grouting sponges at home depot.... I know a lot of people use them with ONR to clean the car, but lately I`ve switched my microfiber cloth and ive been using the grouting sponge with the 2 bucket method. Seems to work well? I dont think its swirling my paint, but at the same time Im not really sure because i guess you could say i already have a nice light layer of swirling all over the car (its a black g37)... I dunno, i have like 4 of them, 2 for the car, one for the wheels, and one as back up just incase? i mean at $1.99 why not

I love them, but prefer using a mitt for wheels.

The yellow ones from Lowe`s IMO are better than the HD ones. They are more and bigger poures. The HP sponges are pretty tight. And the Lowe`s are softer.

Yea unfortunately we don`t have a Lowes in my area, but I picked up my sponges from a place called RONA, not sure if its a chain down in the US, but its pretty much an equivalent to Lowes. My main concern was if they aren`t swirling/scratching the paint, even lightly? and I don`t mean in regards to the dirt, or gravel that sticks to them because like I said, I`m using the 2 bucket method with grit guards. Its grout sponges in general that im not too sure about...:nervous:

I have tried both the Home Depot and Lowe`s grout sponges, and I prefer Lowe`s. As Legacy notes, the Lowe`s sponge is softer and and less dense. I don`t know if the Lowe`s is less likely to swirl the paint than the Home Depot sponge, but I feel safer with the Lowe`s sponge. I wanted to prefer the Home Depot sponge, by the way, simply because I like the way it looks.

it gets softer as you use it more as well and it does a great job of releasing dirt, etc..

I started using the Proline sponges from the discussions here.

Make sure it is the grout and tile sponge. They did not have the grout sponge at one Lowes, but a general purpose sponge, i got that and then found the grout sponges at the next Lowes for around $2 a piece, picked up 3 of them.

Normally in the broom and mop section, not in the tiling area for some reason.

I`ve used them for about 5 years now, no complaints to date. I don`t notice increased swirling using the sponge over anything else. FOr the price you can`t go wrong.

Yea, see i figured they would be ok for the paint, but just out of concern i posted this in the detailing section of a infinity g37 forum also, and the responses from that thread are the complete opposite. theyre all saying that it will swirl up the paint and to use a diffrent sponge like zymol, or the auti detailing grouting sponge.... now im really not sure if i should be using them!
