Hey guys, I was wondering how harmful degreaser is on paint?

i went to the carwash today (Not for my car of course) and I saw them spraying degreaser on a rag and wiping down jambs... etc.

    How safe/not safe is this?

Just make sure you get it rinsed off. It would strip any wax.

Ahh, I see. So if I wanted to clean my jams I could just wipe it on with a rag?

Then wipe it off with another?

I agree with tom. I wouldn`t want it drying on the paint, especially if it is a strong degreaser.

It`s not quite that straightforward...if the jambs are all greasy, there may be a lot of grit, etc. in the grease, which could marr the jambs...if you care.

LOL...if it`s not greasy, why do you want to use a degreaser? We`re talking about some sort of APC, right? Dilute it down, or wipe it with fresh water after. There are many ways to clean door jambs. Are you talking about just the regular dirt that doesn`t get washed out when you`re doing a wash, or the greasy stuff that accumulates around hinges and striker plates? If it`s just car wash dirt, you can use a QD or ONR/QEW, Spray & Wipe, etc. I usually use a damp towel if it`s just dusty, if it`s a bit dirtier I spray some QEW first. After you get them clean if you use some cleaner wax it will be easier to wipe in the future, and it lasts a lot longer in the jambs than it does on the outside.
