I`ve had a hardtop on my Jeep for the last 3 years - it required 2 strips of insulator rubber adhesive to be applied.

Is there anything safe that I can buy from a local shop that I can use to remove the residual rubber and goo that were left when I pulled off the adhesive? It`s on top of a painted, clear-coated area of my Jeep.

I probably should have checked here first before I even tried to pull off the adhesive - so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Goof-off which is usually pretty good. I also have used Acrysolve (sp?) which is also a good product.

I think I`ve seen the 3M at Wal-Mart in the auto section near the touch-up paints and Bondo.......... if not there try near the tapes and glues.

Watch out for the loose women that hang out in those big cities :chuckle:

And as BigJim posted, I have very good luck with WD-40 too.

I couldn`t find the 3M stuff, only the WD-40. Are there any precautions I should take, or is it safe on paint? I take it I just take a paper towel and try to rub it off? I have some Cobra microfiber towels, but those things are stupid expensive.

And Miss Kitty says her girls ain`t loose, ain`t loose, ain`t loose... but the echos convinced me otherwise

The loose women were definitely in favor of that product -

However, as it stands, I have WD-40.

Test it on a small area first, but it has always been paint safe for me. I`d try to use a cheap MF or small cotton towel, you can try a paper towel but it might not work as well. You might have to let it dwell for a little while to dissolve/melt the adhesive residue.
