I have what looks like the clear coat peeling away on the top edge of my front bumber. The missing parts at the top were how it looked in Oct. It has expanded recently to the loose sections you see in the picture. The car is a 2001 Mazda Miata.

I would appreciate any help on understanding what is happening and what I can do to stop and correct it.

    Thanks.

The only way to correct it is to repaint it.

    The WHY:

    1. Poor preparation on the repaint

    2. Clear not mixed properly when sprayed. Too much material or hardener. Not enough or too much flex additive?

There are more, but you get the point.

    Repaint is the only solution.

Are you saying the whole bumber needs to be repainted? Or can I take care of the small spot with touchup clearcoat?

    Thanks,

    Joe

The whole bumper should be repainted. Just easier that way.

Any thoughts on just trying to repair the one spot with touch up clear coat? I understand it may not be the best repair, but I am not looking for perfection, but would like to try to stop it from getting a lot worse.

    Thanks,

    Joe

If you try and go that route...the new clear will lift the old clear and your right back to where you are now. Either leave it alone or do it the right way. Should be more the a couple hundred dollars to fix it.
