I`m about to purchase a UDM and make the attempt at correcting my 1998 Camaro SS swirl marks problems.

I`ll be using Zaino Z-2, Z-5, afterwards, so what Sonus product should I get with the UDM DAS package?

First off we need to see pic,s to determine what you will need to correct the problems as the udm might not be the right choice.

I don`t have any photos of the paint that close. But it`s not close to some of these `bad` cars I`ve seen on here.

And I just ordered the UDM with DAS pads combo last night with Sonus Swirl Buster.

Like the thread name says, NEWBIE. I`m a Parachute Infantryman by trade, so this isn`t room clearing or setting demo on compound doors. Car Detailing as you know it is kind of like shooting people in my business. It`s very detailed, but only the professionals know that. So, I`m reaching out for some honest guidance with what I have and what I`ve just purchased (maybe need some more).

It`s a shame that there are no professional detailers on this side of Texas! Even with the Southwest Corvettes store being here in El Paso, they don`t use a professional in town as well!

Definitely Sonus SFX 1, 2, and 3. Only use SFX 1 as a spot treatment for really tough areas, never on your entire car. Do SFX 2 with the Orange Pad on your entire car, and finish off with SFX3 (this is optional) or with Sonus Paintwork Cleanser. You might also want to clay your car with clay magic before you polish. You can also use SFX 2 with the white pad on tough swirl marks. However, I must say that the condition of your paint looks pretty bad, so you might want to consider hitting it with some Menzerna SIP followed by Menzerna 106 or micro polish if SFX does not do the job. Let us know how it goes. I recommend you check out this video (choose heavy swirl remover) Detailing Video, How to use the Porter Cable 7424 7336 polisher It will show you how to operate your UDM correctly. Some people move it too fast, which makes it less effective. First run it at speed two to spread the polish, then kick it up to 5 or 6.

    detaildoc,

thanks, I`m heading on the right course. So, you say use SFX although I`m going to used Z-2/5 after getting rid of the swirls? This is the confusing thing about detailing, so many ways, and forums just confuse the hell outta me with all the different answers one can get. Thanks.

Yes. SFX are polishers. Zaino can be confusing because they call their products polish, but they are not, they are sealants. The only polish they make is Z-PC fusion.

So, in a nutshell, lets walk that dog....

I ordered a UDM with DAS pads. The Sonus swirl buster..

I should go ahead and order SFX 1, 2, and 3..

    then apply Z-2 and 5?

I just watched the video. I`m excited, but a little confused as well. But I`m sitting here at a computer instead of seeing this first hand (hands on, first person preferred). You mention Menzerna IP.

Hit it with Sonus SFX 2 with the Orange pad, then follow with SFX 3 with the blue Pad or with Paintwork Cleanser with the Green Pad. Only use SFX 1 to spot treat stubborn swirls (don`t use it on the entire car). Then follow with Z-2 and 5. I would use Menzerna SIP then 106ff (nano polish) only if you are not able to get most of the swirl marks out with Sonus.

It`s been a long time since I`ve used any Zaino products, but I`d put a Z6 wipedown in your process before you apply the sealant. From what I`ve read here, and my experience with the old non pro Zaino products, it can be a little picky about what it bonds with.

I`d apply the Z5 before you apply the Z2 if you`re going to use both of them.
