I`ve been sneaking around behind my husband`s back for 6 years now.

He believes that cars should be washed by the dealership when you take the car in for an oil change. If it needs a wash in between oil changes, you run it through the car wash down at the gas station.

He also thinks that any type of polish or wax will ruin my car because it has clear coat on it.

So for 6 years now I`ve been sneaking around behind his back. Three times a year I use Klasse AIO followed by Klasse SG. I have to wait until he goes out of town to use my Klasse because it takes a while to complete the process.

One time I forgot to hide my Meguiar`s High Tech Yellow Wax paste. He saw it & asked me "you didn`t use that crap on your car did you . . . you know it will ruin your car since you have clear coat."

How can I convince him that I`m not hurting my car or its clear coat without killing his ego? He thinks he knows everything about cars & he`s a macho guy (football coach) who sure doesn`t want his wife giving him advice about car maintenance.

I forgot to add . . . his truck is only a year old but it is a scratched-up, swirled up mess.

Welcome to Autopia. Your post made me chuckle. I guess you could show your husband some of the before and after photos of the vehicles on this website ... maybe then he would begin to appreciate the care you show for detailing.

well, assuming he is an adult and can listen like one, ask him to read a few detailing FAQs such as the ones on Autopia and Autogeek.

sorry to sound blunt, but if he is so closed minded and "macho" (as you put it), that he can`t learn something new or take advice from his wife, he has bigger issues.

Personally, I would turn the jar around until you get to the part that says, "Clear coat safe." I believe that most meg`s products say that. That might not do the trick though

Yeah, I`ve tried that one. He thinks it`s a marketing gimmick--of course the manufacturer would put that on there--they want to sell their stuff.

He is so stubborn & bull-headed sometimes (but I love him dearly).

you-"oh btw, i have been using polish/wax on it all the time....oh wait, and the paint looks better than yours....so much for be so bad for the paint."

the only rational thing to do is to leave him so you can enjoy all the clearcoat safeness you want!

but really, how does he think something like wax can harm the paint lol ?

Does he also say "if you keep waxing that, you`ll wax the clearcoat right off!" I hear that one all the time

Ask hom how he came to his (obviously very wrong) conclusion about ruining anything with a clear coat. If that dosen`t work casually take him to a professional and ask the professional oh so coy in front of him so he can`t dodge the question about how could any wax out there ever possibly ruin clear coat paint because your confused about it all.

Funny thing is my wife used to think the same thing about wax harming the clear coat until I detailed her car. Maybe you can somehow do the same thing.
