How many of you guys and gals are still running into cars with single stage paint? The first car I did was in bad shape, but I learned a lot from it. Hopefully the car I do today (87 T-Type Regal) won`t be too bad.

I do probably a single stage car once a week.

You will never escape single Stage. I thought the newer EVO III were clear coated. I was wrong.

Now that`s truly a surprise. I`m not complaining about working with single stage paint. Just think it`s kinda neat that some of those paint jobs are still holding up.

It is my understanding the EVO isn`t clearcoated, in order to save weight (the weight of the clear coat itself that is).

On the EVO`s the only colors that are single stage are the solid colors. All their metallic paints are CC`d. I know the red and yellow EVO`s are single stage.

I find that sometimes the SS paint is easier to work with. Very few things look nicer than a freshly polished black SS paint.

My 81 Z-28 is SS and it is such a joy to polish

the CC on my 97 Z-28 is very hard and not so much fun

(I guess that`s what I get for having a black DD)

I know for sure the reds are. I`ve done 3 red EVO III`s and every single one has been SS. But then again, its awesome to work on them because oxidation on a SS is such a major turn around. Then again, if you don`t have a fair share of pads, it sucks. :grinno:
