I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. I noticed the other day I have a spot on the roof that looks like a bunch of little bubbles in/under the paint/clearcoat. It has a bit of a line going down from the main bubbles. Right in the middle is a little chip out of the paint with white in the middle.

Is it more likely that this is just a flaw when they painted the car or that water some how has worked its way down to the metal and started rusting? The middle of the chip had no rust in it.

For the time being I put some touch up on the chip just to be safe.

Doesn`t sound normal, but pictures would be necessary to confirm that.

I think i know what you`re talking about, it happens when the surface wasn`t prepped properly before painting and contaminants became stuck between the paint and metal leading to the paint `popping`. The only way to fix it is to repaint but pics will be necessary to confirm that.

I can confirm, its not normal.......

Check your paint/corrosion warranty and go from there......most are 5/10 years

A few years ago i had my car repainted and it did this on the hood. I had to have it repainted, took it to a different shop and they said the first shop never sand it down and spray painted over rust.

I drive a Honda Civic and they`re known to get the quarter panel rust spots.

Well mine being a 95 civic; the rust is just now showing. It is doing what you`re saying, bubbling up... But since your car is only 3 years old. Do what the above guy said, and check the paint/corrison warranty.

So it could be rust coming to the surface. If not treated. It will eventually eat through it all and show its ugly face.
