Just a quick topic...Does nobody search the forums anymore? We seem to have about 8-10 threads over the past week that are all exactly the same.

It appears a lot of members don`t bother to search very often. I see the same questions and topics posted over and over again. You`ll click on a thread and think "Didn`t I read this before?" Well yes you did and probably not that long ago.

In a related subject we also have members who love to post excessively. They`ll write one or two sentences just for the sake of posting it seems. Is this to drive up their numbers? Does this increase the coolness or wisdom factor to have over 300 posts in less than two weeks? Who knows?

Just something to think on. :nomore:

Nope, no searching. Easier and faster to just post instead of search. But really, I think a lot of times people post instead of search because when trying something new its nice to have your hand held if that makes any sense....

Or maybe they have something to say, or like conversation. I think that is what a message board is for?

here is my opinion on searching............. I hate the search engine on this forum. I have spent far too much time looking for something simple like single stage black paint fixes. I get so many hits yet many are not what I`m looking for. There needs to be a way to advance your search and progressively reduce the search down as you go.

Another issue is that the Jargon used needs to be updated in the Decoder ring weekly or bi-monthly. For example what IPA not found in the Decoder ring...........Indian pale ale???

no flame needed just a rant with a idea attached.

    Greg,

I actually agree with you on that, the search engine is tough sometimes.

I don`t see how posting a short sentence is illustrating you have something to say. You just proved my point Josh by posting twice one minute apart. You could have gone back and edited your original post to add the second comment.

Greg, I don`t think I flamed and did offer some advice. Other members don`t find the search function that difficult to use. Have you tried the Advanced Search feature?

So what your saying is that unless you have something long winded to say, dont say it at all? That makes no sense.

I strongly agree the search engine on this forum is lacking. It would help tremendously if you could use 2-character searches here, or search for phrases. I often used Google`s advanced search options to restrict a search to this domain.

You can approximate a 2-character search with vB`s search engine by using the asterisk as a wildcard. So, for example, if searching for "QD", use "QD*".

I know we have a forum upgrade in the works, should be here Real Soon Now . . . I think it`s in a holding pattern until DavidB brings the Ultimate Detailing Machine and Ultima to market. I believe the newer versions of vB have a better search engine.

In the meantime, the suggestion to use Google search on the autopia domain is an excellent one.

Yep, Tort is right about the google search. It is much more effective. Basically in the search bar you type "site:www.autopia.org/forum <type search term here>"
