How do I get rid of rust on a tailpipe? My car is brand new and the car looks great but my tailpipe is completely covered in rust. It looks horrible.

I tried using Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish and it made it look a lot better than what it was, so instead of it being completely covered in rust, now there are just rust spots.

    Any ideas?

Not sure what it is made of.

You can see rust spots all over it. The picture really doesn`t show it as much as when I am looking at it.

The mothers mag and alum polish got rid of a lot of the rust, but I am still left with these spots. They don`t come off with the polish.

If the car is brand new, any corrosion should be limited to the very surface. How long did you work in the metal polish? I was able to polish my Protege`s exhaust tip back to a clean, shiny finish after 7 years of neglect. I can`t imagine yours is that far gone. I`d recommend trying the metal polish again, and working a very small area for a long time. That will show you what you`re capable of.

If nothing else, get a stainless exhaust tip from the store and clean/seal it up before putting it on the muffler tip. Then keep it clean from that point on.

Have you tried using steel-wool 0000 before applying the polish ? You may find this`ll give you a "head start".

I had that same problem...I used Clearkote metal polsh and it worked very well. You could try some CLR first and then top it.
