im looking to get backing plate along wiht new pads for my mikita 9227 rotary buffer...however im new to using a rotary buffer....would there be any benefit in getting a smaller backing plate and pads vs a larger ones? meaning which would be easier to learn on? and if there is no differentce.. would the 7.5 inch pads work with the backing plate that comes wiht the mikita? however im not sure if it would be worth getting flexable plates as opposed to the one offer with the mikita...sry for all the question...jw curious

any input would be appreciated, thanks

I`m not very familiar with all the different plates and pads offered by the various vendors, but I will say that starting off with a smaller pad is a lot easier to learn with. I am still learning with my rotary and use the same pads that I use with my PC. I also found regular flat pads to be easier to control too.

I just stocked up on 6.5" LC pads and a 4 3/4" flexible backing plate for my Makita. It`s much easier to control than the larger diameter pads and the flexible backing plate helps to hug the vehicle when you are working on edges which is hard enough already when using the rotary.
