my parents take thier dogs to the beach most weekends, they asked me to valet it for them. i had no trouble with the dog hairs but the sand is a real pain, it just doesn`t want to come out, i have tried vacuuming and using a sticky tape roller both of which help but sand is still deep in the carpet pile. any ideas? also any ideas on removing shoe marks from a door panel? thanks for your help.

Good luck on the sand, I`d just keep digging at it with the strongest vac I can find and a brush. For the marks on the door panel, a Magic Eraser should do the trick.

What I find to help is using a good stiff plastic bristle brush to gather the sand in one section and go at that section with the vac. Some carpets are more problematic, but the brush and vac have worked well for me.

Take a big rubber mallet and just hit it, over and over while vacuuming. This dislodges a lot of the sand. Even better is a PC powered brush, it gets *everything* out if you use it in conjunction with a little green or extractor to break the grease bonding that holds some sand in.
Once you buff black, you never go back

I`ll probably use a Dirt Devil for the sand - the combo of the vac and brush would likely do the trick.

For the scuffs, the Magic Eraser is a good idea. I`ve had very good results with full strength Simple Green.

Whenever I do carpet I vacuum once and then go over it again with a PC and brush atatchment. The brush seems to bring the dirt up from the bottom and then I vacuum again. You might have to do this a few times though.
