Interesting Observation...

Last night we had high winds and rain..Today I went out to my truck and it was covered in leaves...mostly maple and ash tree leaves....truck was beading nicely.



I grabbed the hose to wash them off ..to my surprise where the leaves laid it was not beading after I sprayed them off...I felt where the leaves were laying and it felt different from rest of painted area...so I washed the truck..in the rain...after the wash it beaded again...



also I have aquapel on my windshield and where the leaves were no beading there also...



now my question..do some leaves have a substance in them to retain water that may have leeched off onto the paint...and held water on the paint...the areas that held water were in the shape of the leaf...all around it was beading like mad...after the soap wash it was good again.

I was thinking the same. Possibly the tanins are causing that.

I thought the tannic acid was caused by the decomposing leaf..I know tannins are from rotting leaves..thats what causes the tea colored water in bogs and ponds...



You all may be right...wish I knew...it is pretty strong stuff what ever it is...it was just laying on top of the paint holding water..until washed off...then was ok..

I did notice when I live in Washington that my windshield wipers would streak a LOT after parking near tall pine trees while fishing along the streams/river. I think a friend who lived in Washington said that the pine trees give off a lot of sap (acid?) and that probably was causing the streaking. Funny that I didn`t notice it when parking in lots adjacent to golf courses with pine trees. Probably either different kinds of trees or maybe much more trees when parking along the forest service roads running along the stream.



I guess as long as it washes off easily then no harm huh?

You know Patrick ..you may be on to something there....we are having alot of rain here..it is the worse acid rain season yet according to the news...and I live on a mountain. so maybe with this last month of rain ..contaminents have been gathering on the leaves and when on the paint leech off...I wish this New England monsoon season would end...we have had mostly rain since late April..
