When someone says they have finished leather, (doesn`t absorb liquid) does this mean the leather is coated? If not, how can one tell the difference? I`m assuming these descriptions are used interchangeably.

Yea finished leather can be another term for coated leather.

To tell the difference between aniline and coated you can take some water and drop it on the leather. If it beads up and does not soak in and discolor the leather (temporary discolor) then it`s coated.
