How hard is the clear coat? Basically how aggresive have you had to get to remove marring/swirls?

I guess its really not a late model, but I did our 99 740 that had some water spots. I would say the clear was pretty hard as I had to spend many hours with a PC getting the paint where its at today.

My 2004 1 Series has pretty soft paint - I`ve never had to use anything more aggressive than #83 with a polishing pad.

It`s not that hard. I would place it at "normal". Using something like Intensive Polishing followed by Final Polish II (Menzerna) would cut up pretty much anything.

The new 760 has some of the hardest clear I have ever worked on. I used the Optimum compound with a firm polishing pad. When I was more aggresive with it the swirls became extra tough to remove.
