i have a patch of rust forming around my gas tank ...its really an eyesore...im getting if fixed in the spring...but i was just wondering what i could do to somehow stop it from spreading or slow it down some..or seal it? i saw rust converting primer...would that be my best step? or just shoot some clear coat over it after i try to clean and remove as much of the rust as possible? its probably coming form the inside, but i want to do what i can.

I would apply some rust converter on it for sure. I have a spot of rust on the underside of my hood (a few spots actually), and I scraped the spots with a wire brush and even scraped off a bit of questionable paint around the spots, and then applied the rust converter to them. I haven`t painted over them yet, for two reasons:

    1. It`s too cold, so I`m waiting for spring.

    2. I wanted to keep an eye on it, to see if the rust continued to spread at all. The primer turned the rust to a dark black color, and I haven`t noticed any rust anywhere. It would make me very happy if the entire patch of rust was neutralized.

What White95max said :xyxthumbs. If you can do anything constructive without making a huge project out of it, the converter is the way to go. If that won`t arrest things you`re looking at major work best left to a pro.
