Right now the most aggressive polish I have is SSR2.5. I do have a cutting pad, but usually try to stick with the polishing pad as most of the cars I do are fairly new and not oxidized. I`m assuming it is okay to use this polish via PC with either a cutting pad or polishing pad, especially if I follow it up with SSR1.

When does a rotary become a necessity?

IMO, DACP with a polishing pad is as aggressive as you can get with the PC. If multiple passes with that combo doesn`t get it, a rotary is needed. Just my opinion.

I agree...bascially nothing above a 6 or so on the cut scale with an orbital. Common products at the top of that range are IP, SSR2.5 DACP and several others. Search for the cut scale and it clearly states genearlly not to go above 6 without a rotary.

that said...I`ve used SSR3 with a orbital...but only in extreme situations.

As Audi said above I too have used SSR3 with the PC (LC orange pad) but in order to break down the polish I used speed 6 with some decent pressure, almost enough to begin to bog down the motor. This was in my pre-rotary days on some pretty decent scratches and the process worked well.

I would say 3M Perfect It II and III Rubbing Compounds are as aggressive as I would go with the PC. With an Orange Light Cutting Pad they can do some major paint correction.
