Review: Prestone: Prestone High Protection Wax

I have relatively short experience with waxing and have some questions.



I found that a really time consuming job is preventing and removing stains on rubber, plastic trims and crannies.



So I am looking for wax that stains trim less. I considred TurtleWax Platinum Ultra, but I have no information about its durability.



How was Prestone Wax in trim staining?



BTW, does Meguiars #20 stain trim? Meguiars products usually have "keep away from vinyl. . . " warning. I feel that the strength of warning has to do with strength of trim staining.

When I used TurtleWax Super Hard Shell liquid, I had powdery stain on trim the next day, but the stain mostly disappeared naturally after a few weeks. It has milder warning than Meguiars products.

Meguiars: "Keep away . . " or "Do not apply wax on . . "



How does #20 compare with Prestone in durability?



I heared #20 does not beed water by design. Then how do you know whether you still have protection or not?



I recently bought $0.99 Prestone Wax (one time use package) and applied it on my hood. It felt thick and had light cleaning ability - I felt the cleaning ability was similar to Turtle Wax spray wax, though I did not do direct comparison -. It beads water very well now but I do not know yet how long it will last.



I have to choose a wax for next week`s waxing. I will not be able to wax again until about next Spring, because it is too cold outside until then.



My car is always outside, there is a lot of salt on the road in this area in winter.



My car is 1992 Mercedes 300D white, 239000 miles. It has tens of touched up spots - these spots do not have clear coat -, but the paint still looks nice if seen from some distance away.

For something outside24/7 I highly encourage a top notch sealant topped with a Collinite wax. Every account I see about it indicates the OTC, consumer stuff can`t match its durability.

By the way, I got email reply from Prestone. They said it is OK to apply Prestone High Protection Wax at 35-45 degrees F.

So I can apply Prestone in Next March. This is nice.

To get about 50 F, I need to wait until April. I heard many carnauba wax and synthetic sealants need above 50 F for proper bond to the paint.

You may find S100 to be good on white and it`s easy to apply. As a carnauba durability is limited to 2 months but many here apply it as a topper to a good sealant.



S100 is one of the best at not staining trim as well.

I would like to use S100 or P21S, but it is expensive and I already have a couple of other brand wax bottles. I will try it later.
