Wood Trim and Plastic Chrome

Which products in both Meguiars professional and consumer lines shold be used for woodtrim and plastic chrome grill. I heard some people use scratchX for wood trim , can i use plastX ?, i have some scratches on the trim and need a polish so which one should i use?

The grill is plastic coated with chrome , i dont think i can use all metal restorer on that because thats not real chrome , can i use plastX on that grill?

Is the wood trim coated? As in does it have clear coating of paint over it?



Or is is natural, or unfinished?

The wood trim isn`t natural, its fake and clearcoated.

Hi SilverXL7,



With both of these surfaces, you want to use completely non-abrasive products and it is very important that you applicator material and removal material are clean and soft so that these two items will not instill any scratches.



I would recommend a clean, soft foam wax applicator pad.



Meguiar’s always says,



"Use the least aggressive product to get the job done"



Meguiar`s Plastic Cleaner, M-1708 is a very mild polish and would be the least aggressive product to try first with a foam applicator.





PlastX is very effective at removing scratches from plastic, that said, the chrome plastic is a different animal and is going to show any marring or micro scratching very easily.



If you decide to try PlastX, you should test this product in a small, inconspicuous area first to insure that the product, and your application of the product, are not marring or micro scratching the finish.



Be very careful when working on this chrome finish. It could be that you will have to experiment with a number for different products to find one that will work, and it is possible that nothing will work. I wish I had it in front of me because I am curios as to what can and cannot be done with this type of coating/surface.



It could be that these two surfaces are very susceptible to scratching or as Meguiar`s refers to it, scratch sensitive.



Mostly I want to try to stress that while the Meguiar’s PlastX is a very safe and effective product, some surfaces need to be handled with kids gloves until you have a feel for polishability, or lack there of.



If it were me, I would try the M-17 Plastic Cleaner first, and then if that didn`t work, I would try the PlastX in an inconspicuous area second.

I will definately try those products in the near future.

I am saving some money now and will place a large orger from meguiars soon.
