GumBe-Gone: Removing gum from carpets/w pictures

Here is a cool product called "GumBe-Gone", its claim to emulsify and remove set in gum on fabric and carpets caught my attention so I really wanted to test it out.



Problem is I could not find any clients cars with gum in it so I popped a few sticks of gum in my mouth, chewd for some time and then ground it into my trucks carpet:doh



I let it sit a full 48 hours, here is a pic...

I opened up the bottle of Gumbe-Gone, smelled it, of course, and while it is not a great smell it is not that bad.



What you do is take about a teaspoon of the product and completely cover the gum wad and then take the included plastic scraper tool and work the Gumbe-Gone thoroughly into the gum wad

The litle tool you get with the product is pretty cool and the end really gets down into the gum wad and is able to saturate the gum wad with product. You can see the stuff working right away.

The gumbe-gone should set about 10 minutes on the gum wad, perhaps longer for a more set piece, but after about 10 minutes the gum was emulsified, it just came right up from the carpet.



I used a cotton towel to remove the residue and it was all gone

It was easy to clean up as the Gumbe-Gone dries to a powder. I sprayed the carpet with some cleaner lightly and then brushed it, vacuum and it`s all done.



The label recommends you use an extractor and while I have one I did not use it here.

But you know what the diff is... It`s not gross if it`s your gum hehe, but if it`s someone elses... Unggh... But the fact that they provide you with a tool, that makes it great!

Anthony, only you would stick gum in your own carpet to test a cleaner....

Did it bleach the carpet any? I presently use a product that is aerosol from sprayaway, it freezes the gum, scrape it into pieces, vacuums up. Thanks

No it did not bleach the carpet but in fact it did seem to also clean it a bit:nixweiss



It does recommend testing an area for color fastness but every product says that and I have yet to have a product bleach carpets.

That sounds like an awesome product cause gum is a pain! I had a piece of gum ground in my carpet at home that one of my Nephews had blessed us with and it had sat in a corner we never really see. Well Spring cleaning came around and I found it, it was hard as a rock. After trying various approaches I got out my trusty Goo gone and it came out with no problem. So if your in a pinch try it but I would check for colorfastness first:xyxthumbs !
