    Lab Sample E

Today, representatives from two of the most prestigious car manufactures in Europe, (BMW/Germany, and Rolls Royce/UK), came by Meguiar’s to discuss their finish problems at the manufacturing level, and to find out what Meguiar’s could offer as a solution.

I was asked to find a black car and demonstrate Lab Sample E.

Just by chance, there was a black Police Interceptor here to be detailed for SEMA. This car is from Michigan and has been repainted, at least once. The quality of the paint job itself is horrible. You can easily see the bodywork, Bondo patches, etc outlined in the finish.

So it’s definitely not a show car.

That said, while the quality of a paint job is important, sometimes you just have to take them as you get them. This is one of those situations. I needed a black car in bad condition, and that’s what I received. I was told to go ahead and prepare the car for a demonstration.

Here is a before picture of the finish after washing. It`s a little out of focus, but you get the idea.

Here is a picture of the deck lid sectioned off. Across the entire back is washed and dried paint only.

There are three sections taped off along the width of the deck lid.

    * On the left will be Meguiar’s #20 Polymer Sealant, (by request of the visiting representatives)

    * In the middle will be Lab Sample E, (no prep work)

    * On the right I will prep the paint using #83 Dual-Action Cleaner Polish on a PC using a W-8006 pad on the 6.0 setting, followed by application of Lab Sample E.

Afterwards, we used a halogen light to inspect the finish, as well as natural sunlight. I also took some photo’s.

Using the flash on the camera, inside the warehouse, I centered the camera in-between the unwashed section, the Lab Sample E section, and the #83/Lab Sample E Section and captured the below photo. If you look at the upper right corner of the Lab Sample E section, (lower left quadrant), you will see a few cobweb scratches.

If you look at the section prepped by machine using #83, followed by Lab Sample E, you will see no cobweb effect. And if you look above both quadrants, and down the tape line, you will see the before picture I called the “Tshotâ€.

On the hood, I merely applied a strip of tape down one half of the hood and applied by hand, one application of Lab Sample E and left the other half the way it looked after washing. (Wash was Meguiar’s Car Wash Soap in the Detailer line),

Here are the results using the flash inside the warehouse,

Here are the results using no flash, after we pulled the car out of the warehouse and into the sun. Again, this was one application of Lab Sample E, with no prep-work on a freshly washed car hood.

Ford was thinking about making it available in the Crown Vic for law enforcement. I think I read in Hot Rod the project was cancelled. Too bad, I was looking forward to snagging one in a few years and removing the V10 emblem....it`d make a hell of a sleeper!

Interesting, Mike. In your opinion, does LSE contain any abrasives or cleaners?

rjstaaf-I think the version they used in the Crown Vic is a little milder. I`m pretty sure it was the same version they use in the vans and trucks....something along the lines of 275 hp and 400 lb-ft of twist-which is a substantial increase over the stock 4.6 V8.

    Hey Guys!

Nice work Mike! I think the photos clearly show the swirl filling capability of Lab Sample E!!

As to the V10, since I have one in my truck with 4.30 gears, believe me, it is fun to drive!!! Really fast in the mid-range! :shocked

V10`s have either 275 or 325 HP and 410 or 425 lbs. Ft of torque depending on years. The 99` model had the lower numbers if you can call them "low", but the weight of the truck was also less. Therefore the increases in both Torque and HP are not that noticeable. One test was done with a 2 wheel drive V10 and the higher 3.73 gears and it cooked a 0-60 mph in ~ 8.3 seconds! (if memory serves me) Not bad for a 3/4 ton truck!!

Mike, those before and afters look amazing. It looks like Lab Sample E has a few enhanced qualities over the `D`, can`t wait to try it!

Damn the V10 in the Mustang sounds awesome, I hope they put that thing into production for the upcoming Mustang! 400 naturally aspirated HP, don`t see that anymore.
