I ordered CMA`s Big Blue towel a couple days before 4 Star Platinum signed on as a sponsor of Autopia. Someone brought up that they have a Big Blue towel just like CMA does. Being the "need to know" kind of guy that I am, I bought one to test against CMA`s. I have them both together today and have some visual comparison pictures to show you. Actual field testing will take place later.

CMA on the left and 4 Star on the right.

Fluffy test. CMA on the left and 4 Star on the right.

Weave comparison. CMA on the left and 4 Star on the right.

Another weave comparison. CMA on the right and 4 Star on the left.

Slight size difference. 4 Star on top of CMA. Pepsi cans are the only way we measure things in my house. :p

I`ll do some more testing on vehicles very soon. I just thought I`d get some photos up first.

The CMA towel is definatly heavier. It is my prediction that it will absorb much better. However, the 4 Star towel is very very soft and kinda elasticy. I think its water retention qualities might shock us a little. I`ll get them tested as soon as I can. :xyxthumbs

edit: I almost forgot. The CMA towel is 80/20 Polyester/Polyamide and the 4 Star towel is 70/30. That may account for the fluffy factor.

Ok. I couldn`t resist. I went out and washed my car even though I know its going to rain tomorrow. Maybe it won`t now. Who knows...? Anyway, they are both really good towels. I can understand why people rave about them now. I didn`t use my CWB on it at all. I really wanted to see how much water they could hold. To start with I laid them both on the hood to see how quick they could soak up the water.

The CMA towel did great. It still felt dry to the touch after soaking up all the water on its end. The 4 Star towel showed signs of soakage right away. Not that that`s a bad thing. Its a thinner towel and I didn`t expect it to soak up as much. They both dried their sides perfectly with no streaks or water trails. Once I got to the side panels it was a different story though. The 4 Star towel saturated much quicker than the CMA towel did. Both left water trails in the end but the CMA towel was able to soak up much more water. I think that had I used the CWB before I started with the towels that they both could have dried the car easily without streaks. The CMA towel would be able to cover a larger car, obviously but I think the 4 Star towel is a great product. Definatly worth the $14 (or less with our discount). :xyxthumbs

I didn`t even have to pull them off the car. They just soaked up the water and didn`t leave a drop behind. Bravo to both Big Blue Towels!!

I did the same test today. You`re right on .....I think If I used the Water Blade I could use The 4 Star towel to get the rest. But BB will do my car with out the WB.
