There are no industry standard tests in this industry. When you buy a quart of motor oil, it was subjected to a variety of engine testing to make sure it meets the required specifications - Sequence IVA wear test etc. So you`re kind of on your own with detailing products, but as others have said, you can get an idea once you spend enough time talking to people, reading comments/reivews on forums and also using them.

There was a member on AG "PipUK" who was based out of the UK somewhere who was a chemist and formulator. Loved that guys posts. He would cut through the bs like a hot knife through butter.

I worked for a long time with chemists in my explosives career. The things I learned from them made me realize some people just have too big of brains. They were damn smart.

As Albert Einstein said, "The difference between stupidity and genius is that there is a limit to genius."
Or as the axiom in engineering goes when trying to apply machine operational safety devices or programming, "Just when you think you`ve made something idiot-proof, they make better idiots."

    ShenValley ------
My project plan has always been to find products that are usually from Europe for some areas of the vehicle, a good American or European maker of compounds, polishes, and then a good, solid, hopefully based in America, maker of Lsp`s, Coatings, waxes, and test them thoroughly on MY vehicles first...

If they work out, I implement them into rotation on Client`s vehicles based on Their Needs, etc., and go from there..

Will never - ever - succumb to the "Latest and Greatest" products that seem to land almost monthly... No time or $$$ for that, thank you...

I know from decades, that some makers of products are just that - Makers of Products - and not much else... Or another way - Marketing 101.... Sell, Sell, Sell... One of these makers has had the Largest Display at SEMA I have ever seen... It was Huge.... Because they sell everything... It was overwhelming.... I have no time for that, thank you....

If one has the time and the extra $$$ to go out and try everything , more power to you !

I`m pretty sure those of us who do this or have done this for a Living, do very little of that... We are too busy with.. Family... Kids...Grandkids...Clients...

So, my advice for you is to as has already been said, Decide What you Want to Get out of your Paint, Interior, Tires, Wheels, Engine and Compartment, Trunk, etc., read up on products, see if anyone has already been there and done that, ask about specific products, and see if anyone has used them already...

I also agree with the poster who said that some clown said Rasky was doing Anything wrong!!!! Obviously someone so blind they need a dog, or just clueless...

Rasky has been doing this for a long, long, time; I saw him when he first started posting way, way, back a few Forums ago... He and His Dad , turn out beautiful, perfect, flat, clear, paintwork, and the rest of the vehicle, perfect as well... His perfect work speaks for itself...

Good luck with your project!!!! Try not to overthink this!!!! We are here to help !!!

I think I may be using the microfibers too often and maybe need other options. That is a little confusing though. I have a large number of these which have come from I believe to be reputable companies and I constantly wash them with a MF wash product but maybe after so many washings it`s time to relegate them to other jobs in the home. It seems I am doing more good than harm (I hope) based on all these opinions and for that I am happy.
    ShenValley ---
Regarding Microfibers --- I still have some from decades ago that are perfect and work great...

I wash with a specific microfiber soap AND add a little Distilled White Vinegar to the Wash, sometimes, the Rinse cycles, dry on LOW ONLY, remove promptly, fold and put away... Never had ANY issues...

In my experiences with this, the Distilled White Vinegar renews by helping clean the microfibers, and they get all "happy" again for my needs... Yes, if you get them all greased, oiled, up, I would never ever use them for anything on the vehicle again, except for more grease and oil, etc... Personally, I will never use microfiber on Anything that is greasy or oily...

Can you use them too much??? Why do you say that??? Tell us what you mean, specifically...

I only use microfiber for removing product from the compound, polish, glass cleaner removal sometimes, wiping after an Interior Product, and that`s about it...

Dan, I don`t think this gentleman even knows who Rasky is. This was on a brand-specific forum and the comments came from a certified installer, who dismissed that anyone other than a full-time "professional" detailer could know anything about detailing. I was trying to get some backup from another member of this forum who is also a member there, so I brought up Rasky as a (hopefully) common frame of reference, but I didn`t get any help.

PS Off topic, anyone hear from Rasky lately? I don`t think I`ve seen him here in a long time. I think I`ll reach out to him and see if he`s ok.

Thanks. I was wondering. The "too much" comment meant can I use detail the exterior too often. With the ceramic on the new truck, with weather permitting, I`ve used the waterless car wash products as well as a few other spray on products for the shine. I`ve never read there is a "too much" in the field but really do not know.

Really was not a big thing. Career LE working then training dogs to include explosive detection canine`s. EDC`s. Retired and went federal training all EDC`s and trained with the chemists and explosive specialist in Huntsville. Handled every explosive known to man and required to learn how to handle, store, transport and so on. Never blew myself up so I guess I listened well.

He got right back to me, he`s good, said he`s been more on Facebook groups. It didn`t occur to me to check his business Facebook page or website, it`s Rasky`s Auto Detailing. He`s a good guy, and a garage to die for.

He was indeed very knowledgeable! It was he who challenged me to drop a piece of wax into some IPA as a test..to convince myself that the "rubbing alcohol strips wax" belief really is utter BS.

(No, I never did try the test, but I took him at his word since I never use IPA as a stripping agent anyhow.)
