Is there a Leather Coating that is color/sheen neutral

New car has real leather....non coated...
Leaning on just may favorite cleaner = just water.

I`m sure I have 24oz= size bottles of LM cleaner/conditioner somewhere.
I`m a big believer in shelf life.....won`t be using the conditioner even if I find it.

Might go the Colourlock or Koh route.
But I might wanna coat it. We`ll see.

Is there currently a leather coating that you have used that will not change the color or sheen at it. Meaning of you do the half a panel test- it would be blind to the eye on the 50/50 test.

I just called the dealer and had him delete the leather off the dashboard. While goooorgeeeeeussss, it will shrink/delaminate over time.

Gyeon leather says it works on all modern traditional and vegan leather’s that are closed structure (aniline, suede etc).

Says does not change look of any leathers.

If your leather is closed structure (has a finish on it) it should be good but check with dealer or Gyeon.

If it’s open structure, stay away from coatings

Use products like Gyeon LeatherCoat and Color lock aniline products.

If I may ask what type of vehicle?

With good reason. He can hit the “Get a quote” button on the page I linked and have an authorized person discuss it with them. It’s a fantastic product. Especially if you’re after something that doesn’t require repeated reapplication. Even more so as they mentioned it’s a non-coated/aniline finish.

The only coating I`ve tried was the CQ. While I could clearly tell it was working - no need to use ultra high PH to clean the ivory seats, but just water.
However, in -leather panel test-, you could tell there was both a color shift and it made it a bit -slick- on the surface. Aka, you kinda forget both to some degree when you recognize the benefit for the app *me me, no high ph cleaner*.

Well you are not on the forum that often but the op is a do it yourself type of person.

It’s good to know that optimum has worked out well for you.

    Guz -

Have you used leather shield. Review`s on amazon say it doesn`t deal with dye transfer...

The CQ and Gyeon do quite well in the dept of dye transfer

I`m switching up exterior paint colors and might go back to -ivory white- on seats. Which then = definite coating due to color
It`s always going to the the usual suspect - the outer bolster that get`s the most rub. Luckily this seats is core is ivory but the sides/bolster is navy

Plenty of information in these videos.

Here is another reason to not consider coatings on leather. At the 14 and 19 minute mark.

I had great success with Gyeon Leather Shield. It made the leather seats in my Porsche Macan look OEM with no shean.

I didn’t catch any of the previous mentions about not using a coating on leather?

After watching the video (14 & 19 minute mark specifically), they give the blanket statement to not use coatings on leather (despite them offering a coating). Mainly because it traps in leather by sitting on the surface(additional top coat layer) like most surface coatings in general do. Also, they assume all coatings are solvent based. Both of these are somewhat inaccurate with Optimum’s leather coating. Leather Guard soaks into the top coat and bonds with it. Similar to their paint coatings. Also, water is used directly in conjunction to the application of the coating to help the coating bond to the surface. The coating actually gets applied to a water dampened surface. No other product I’m aware of uses this installation procedure. And
I’m not aware of any other coating that bonds with the leather surface. Probably why I’ve had years of excellent results using it. But, as mentioned before, this is a professional applied product and I’m aware that the OP probably isn’t interested in it. I’m just adding further content in case someone else would like to consider such a product.
