ScottHD ceramic coating test 2 year update thoughts?

The YouTuber ScottHD dropped his ‘final’* video of his Ceramic Coating video today. I’m not sure what to make of it. The hood that sits out back of his shop has reached 2 years and he tested the hydrophobicity (ie rinsed it) and then decon and clayed. Was really surprised that some of the Chinese coatings were still there and GTechniq CSL wasn’t.

    * think he said he was going to leave it a month and see if the decon/clay hadn’t given a temporary result.

it did confirm that CQUK3 was one of the top.

what do y’all think of his results, testing methodology, etc?

Stopped paying attention to him after all his Pan jealousy and hate. Tunimg in more for The Guz current coating tests.

Imitally though.... wasn’t excited about the products Scott used...

If i was looking for a product to use on a car that was gonna sit outside on cinder blocks for 2 years, perhaps a worthwhile test.

For a car that will actually be driven and subject to road grime, salt spray and real-world usage...not very applicable.

    Just my opinion, YMMV.

You’d almost need a hybrid of longevity and resistance, but with consistent panel placing. Some areas of the car just get hammered more heavily.

I fast forward through his videos. It’s not a true durability test but it’s interesting to see how coatings vary in hydrophobic behavior.

And yet some of the coating can`t even make it to a year, so what does that tell you?

i like his videos. not a true real world test but the results he gets are far better then any other videos i have seen. I have CSL/CQUK3.0/SPS graphene/CSL+EXO/CQUK+Gliss on my hood right now as a real world test and CSL by itself has slightly fallen behind. Still beading strong but slightly less then the others

I take them with a grain of salt, just like anything online. Also been following Chicago Auto pros and Pan’s long term tests. There always seems to be one ‘interesting’ result in these tests. This one, for me, was CSL. In the latest Chicago AP, it was the Optiseal (though not as much so).

Can I ask what the interesting results were with OptiSeal? Just curious.

In my experience using many coatings not a whole lot. We don’t always see the persons coating application so there is always the variable of improper install. And yes that happens to the best of us regardless of experience.

Using a particular product in ones own environment is a true test to tell if a coating is good or not.

But most take these testing videos as gospel as cost plays a factor for a particular person. Essentially what’s best bang for the buck.

In the end trying a coating or two is the best way for an individual to find what works for them.

I like the fact that the tests are consistent and he repeats them to check consistency. He presents what he gets, with no hype.

What I have found quite telling is how much more durable Exo V3 is compared to Exo v4 which continues to disappoint.

That`s true with any online review. I still rather his method over the ones that just spray APC on the panel. That tells me nothing as I don`t wash my car with an APC, but it does sit outside in the hot sun all day. I know from my own testing that most 3 year coatings won`t make it to two years. I have cquarts lite on my truck and the doors were pretty much dead after 4 months.

It tells me what to use on my `73 Nova sitting on jackstands in my backyard if I lived in Texas (I believe that`s where he is located). Probably doesn`t tell me what would work best on my `73 Nova sitting on jackstands in my backyard in Buffalo, NY though.

That it was completely gone within two weeks. I know OOS is a product that has wide variation in what people claim to get out if it (1 month to 6 months) but that seems really short.
